Joie de Vivre
Aloe in Sanskrit means Goddess. The Aloe Vera plant is known as names such as healing plant and miracle plant. In Greece and ancient Egypt, Aloe Vera represents joie de vivre, endurance and beauty. For Muslims they symbolise luck. It is also said if you have an Aloe Vera in your home, apparently your dreams will come true. Now that might be a bit of a stretch but hey, it’s worth a try.
An Aloe Vera plant is not only a cool looking plant with positive meaning, it also has many medicinal uses. Most commonly, it is used to treat and protect the skin.
Plant Type Indoor Houseplant
You can harvest your Aloe for its medicinal purposes. It’s not uncommon for Aloe plants to repopulate exponentially, so there’s a good chance that you will have plenty of Aloe before you know it. Give it on, re-plant it, start your own Aloe shop, much is possible with the Aloe Vera plant.
Plant for thought
Aloe will decorate a kitchen, bathroom or study shelf with quiet grace while serving as a self-regenerating first-aid kit.
MINNIKIN packaging is not Aloes’ ideal long-term home. You can either place your plant into your favourite pot directly (and then take it out to water). Or replant it in a slightly larger container which has good drainage.
Aloe Vera likes well-draining potting mix, such as for cacti/succulents (which is made up of granite soil, perlite and coarse sand) which helps the water get through easily.
Sun Exposure Place in indirect sunlight or artificial light, avoid radiators.
Water Aloe deeply but then allow the soil to dry at least 1 to 2 inches deep between waterings, water even less in winter. Water the plant from underneath, since if water is left standing in the rosette of leaves it can start to rot.
